Reporting an error

Please include the page and what you believe is wrong. Calculation errors are treated as urgent, see our corrections policy.

The most useful report names the page, the figures you entered, the result you were shown and the result you expected. With those four things an error can usually be reproduced immediately; without them the first reply is only ever a request for them.

Suggesting a calculator

Worth sending, particularly if it is a calculation you currently do by hand or in a spreadsheet. The ones most likely to get built are those with a published method behind them, because a tool here has to be able to show its working and cite where the method came from.

Please do not send us your measurements

The whole design of this site is that your height, weight and age never reach us: they are worked out in your browser and stay on your device. An email is the one route that would undo that, and we would rather not hold health details we have gone to some trouble not to collect.

To report a wrong result we need the figures you entered, which is not the same thing as your figures. If you would rather not send your own, any numbers that reproduce the problem will do.

What to expect back

This is a small site, so replies are not instant. A reported calculation error will be looked at before anything else, and you will hear what came of it whether or not it turned out to be an error. Everything else is read, and answered where there is something useful to say.

What we cannot help with

We cannot give individual advice about your weight, diet, health or medication. Answering a question like that properly means knowing things about you that a website cannot. Your GP, pharmacist or a registered dietitian is the right place for those.

If you need support now

If you are struggling with your relationship with food or your body, Beat runs a helpline for anyone in the UK affected by an eating disorder. If you need urgent medical help, contact NHS 111 or your GP.
