Information, not advice
The calculators and content on this site provide general information and estimates. They are not medical advice, they do not diagnose any condition, and they are not a substitute for consulting a qualified professional who knows your circumstances.
Estimates are produced from population equations and stated assumptions. Individual results vary, sometimes considerably. Nothing here should be relied on as a prediction of what will happen to you.
Suitability
These tools are intended for adults. They are not suitable for children or teenagers, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for anyone with an eating disorder or a history of disordered eating. If you have a health condition or take medication, speak to your GP or pharmacist before making changes to your diet.
Accuracy
We take accuracy seriously, the calculation engine is covered by a test suite and every assumption is published on the methodology page. We cannot, however, guarantee that the site is free of error, and it is provided without warranty.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of this site. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Availability
The site is provided as it is, with no promise that it will be available, uninterrupted or free of error. A calculator found to be returning a wrong figure may be taken down without notice, because leaving it running would be worse.
Using what is here
You are welcome to use these calculators for your own purposes, to quote a figure with a link back, and to point anyone at any page. Republishing pages wholesale, or presenting the results as the output of something else, is not permitted. The formulae themselves belong to nobody: they are published on the methodology page precisely so they can be checked and used.
Links to other sites
Where a page links out, to the NHS, to a source, or to a service, that link is provided for reference. We do not control what those sites say or do, and a link is not an endorsement of anything beyond the specific thing it was cited for.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change. The date at the top of this page shows when they last did, and continuing to use the site after that is acceptance of the version then published.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
